Treo 650: X-Files

Palm Treo650

Matthew has wrote big article covering different ROM issues. He also described boot process. Believe or not, but Treo has a very long bootloader chain which consists of 3 (three !) loaders. Read here.

Matthew (and Shadowmite's)

Matthew (and Shadowmite's) info is also quite useful for the other ports as I believe all the XScale Palms should have boot processes quite similar to this. Certainly the Lifedrive has the exact same three loader structure plus 'recovery' mode. The Lifedrive's recovery mode is much more basic compared to the Treo's though.

It seems, that T|T3's

It seems, that T|T3's bootloader is the only one loader present. It shifts directly to PalmOS after boot. IMHO the same is valid for other Tungstens.

I see. Perhaps the three

I see. Perhaps the three loader structure is only in the PXA27x based devices then. I might check out the T5 rom update tonight and see what it looks like.

Edit: By the looks of it, T5 has a two-stage bootloader. I haven't looked to see whether it's anything like the Lifedrive's size-wise it's second loader is about the same size as the sum of the Lifedrive's second and third loader, though.

Where can one find

Where can one find information on the recovery mode? I am curious if there is one on the TX. (I get a flashing bar over the second logo if I hold down hotsync while booting.)
