replace the internal microdrive

PalmOS

has anyone tried to do a copy of the internal drive using a program that sees all the partitions and put it on another say cfII card....i think it would be faster....if anyone out there has a way to do this it would be great....

I tried booting PalmOS off a

I tried booting PalmOS off a 256mb standard CF card. It didn't work. There is some code in the bootloader that looks like it makes sure the card is either a Seagate or Hitachi microdrive. You'd have to modify the flash ROM to get around it which is something I'd rather not do.

i think its a size issue not a type issue.....im willing to try...i dont have acess to any linux computers at this time....so if anyone is willing to help me...id be willing to buy a 4 gig cf card.....

Hmm. If you're stuck in Windows and going to try a 4gb CF card, assuming you have some way to image a drive in Windows, it would be easiest just image your microdrive and stick that image on the card. It'd be exactly the same as following my HDD restore guide.

thats what im

thats what im thinking....then ill have an image to tinker with....the darn lifedrive is unstable in my opinion due to the microdrive and some software likes to use it too much...it cant hurt to try...if it works then the lifedrive will be a little better...i do some data recovery for customers....my old boss bought me some really kickin software...it sees everything....and will do clone copies of even most linys partitions....som im willing to try it.....

Hello, I have tried to

Hello,
I have tried to replace the microdrive with a 4Gb CF (Samsung OEM) and it does not work, using the "dd" method from the original micro-drive, and using the method starting from the PalmOS update archive.
Everything seems to work fine when I copy on my CF. The partition table looks exactly the same than the microdrive but it does not boot .
CHS parameters are almost the same except for Cylinders (MD has 7936 cylinders, the 4Gb CF has 8060).
Any idea about what could be wrong ??? Is there some modifications to do in the partition table ?

Thanking you in advance.

PS: Some peoples have suceeded to boot on a CF (Sandisk model).

I have pqi 4gb and the

I have pqi 4gb and the kingston 4gb elite pro, and they do not work.
I was able to get the Sandisk 4GB to work with the hackdev method and the DD method. Peter said that he got the hackdev method to work on the kingston 4gb pro. I would like to know how he does it? my rom-partion image chsum is exactly like the one on hackdev.

Apparently according to

Apparently according to somebody, they have a 1GB CF card in their lifedrive, and it just checks to see if it's got the right number of heads/cylinders. This may or may not work, it's just what I heard.
