Mail at @hackndev.com
Submitted by Farcaller on 29 January, 2007 - 21:46.I've been tired of constant reconfiguration of postfix (yeah, I'm lame in mail administration, I admit that
) to make it spam-secure so moved H&D mail to GAfYD (Google Apps for Your Domain). What now? 2Gb mailboxes, great GMail interface, calendar and personalized homepage. However we're limited to 50 accounts so this service is provided only for H&D developers.
If you're a developer and want to get mail in our domain (hackndev.org is a mirror name for hackndev.com so you get mail alias for free) - just email me or catch up on #hackndev. I suggest every developer to get such mail to 1. See how many active devs we have 2. Have unified way to contact each other (you can set up forwarding if you want).
You can log in to mail using GMail (http://gmail.com) or H&D start page (http://start.hackndev.com).
Treo 680 project is started and some success with the GSM module
Submitted by Alex on 13 January, 2007 - 11:13. Palm Treo650If you'd been watching the H&D SVN repository you might have noticed several commits mentioning 'palmt680', and indeed we have a new project. I'd like to welcome our newest developer, Satadru who has started working on the port.
On a related note I've discovered how to talk to the GSM phone module (it will probably also work with the CDMA one) on the 650. After a little poking around, I discovered my initial assumptions about the BP (baseband processor - the 'smart' part of the phone module) being hooked to the ASIC UART were wrong. The BP is actually on the FFUART, so to talk to it all you need to do is open /dev/ttyS0 at 460800 8N1 with RTS/CTS flow control. It seems that Palm OS puts it into a binary protocol mode, so it'll just spit gibberish at you. After a bit of tinkering around with ASIC though, I noticed one of registers changing if the phone was on or off. Toggling this register appears to reset the module and you can speak to it in plain ASCII again.

The Treo plan (so far)
Submitted by Alex on 6 January, 2007 - 05:47. Palm Treo650I realise I ended up going a bit quiet on the LD project. I'll try to document our progress a bit better with this one. So check the project blog from time to time.
Read on for some (non-exhaustive) notes on what needs to be done for Treo 650 Linux.
Palm Treo 650 added to subversion
Submitted by Alex on 4 January, 2007 - 03:49. Palm Treo650I have just committed some initial Treo 650 code to SVN. Booting is accomplished using Cocoboot, for now you need compile Cocoboot with James McKenzie's patches enables using the -DTREO650 flag to work around read-only memory map problems.
Things that work:
- LCD framebuffer console
- Booting off an ext2 partition on an MMC/SD card
- Controlling LCD backlight brightness via /sys
- Built-in QWERTY keyboard
Here's some binaries for those who know how to partition memory cards and use the console.
Alex jumps handhelds
Submitted by Alex on 4 January, 2007 - 02:35. Palm LDJust letting you all know I'm no longer working on the LD Linux project. A little while ago I damaged my IDE cable by unplugging and replugging it too much while testing dalboot. (It was inevitable that I'd break it eventually.
) While I might pick up the project again later, either by booting off the serial port or getting a replacement cable/LD, at the moment I'm playing around with Treo 650 Linux. Those interested in the LD project, I suggest now contacting Marex or fahhem.
Happy New Year!
Submitted by Farcaller on 1 January, 2007 - 00:05.Welcome to the 2007! Have a nice holidays
We have been with you for more than a year. A lot of things are done, a lot of things are still listed in our TODOs. I wish all the developers to flush their TODO files and all users to have enough patience to wait for stable releases
I want to greet two guys that made H&D look as it is now: kaafree aka Andrey and BobOfDoom aka Alex. Also I want to greet all the developer crew: Marex, you're the most anime-freaked linux developer I know, balrog, thank's for visiting me
, slapin, thx for useful hints and your u-boot work, BlackDiamond (not actually a developer), thanks for great TT3 JTAG investigation, Sleep_Walker, one of the best 0verkill players, CIA-17, the well-known flooder, Belldandy, the most useful (and most cute) bot I've ever seen, everybody else on #hackndev and among developers! Thanks for your hard work on palm handhelds!
Z71: New BootKit v0.2 - Skuld Edition
Submitted by marex on 30 December, 2006 - 22:08.Hi, I did some small fixes recently on old 2.6.16 kernel. Even though Z71 is being merged to mainstream omap, it's mostly useless by now (mmc driver is weird about initing card, touchscreen needs changes etc.). So I released this bootpack with some important changes. The most significant one is modular kernel. Dont hesitate and read on
PS: it is really about Z71 and not TT
Spambots :-(
Submitted by Farcaller on 27 December, 2006 - 13:53.We're now so popular that spambots finally reached us
I can't say taht's very good (that's very bad), but I can't find any solution now (captcha is not a solution).
Until we have CMH up and running (it will be soon, believe me
) I've granted all H&D dev crew rights to delete posts/comments. Please, just don't remove useful things
PS: Marex, read the paragraph above several times

Hack&Dev Summit 2007
Submitted by marex on 19 December, 2006 - 23:01. Linux4PalmHi, I'm thinking about making a Hack&Dev developer conference. My plan is making it in Prague [Czech Republic] somewhere in January / February 2007. What do you think about it? You can write your opinion and comments under this article.
This will be updated with new infos, so we'll see what'll get from this.
